Push Lawn Mowers - Do They Still Make Such Antiques?

Let's face it, during a recession you're going to have to cut costs. Maybe you've figured out that one of the costs is to cut the landscaping crew and that means cutting your own grass. But even if you fire your landscaping crew that does the edging, grass cutting, and basic landscaping, this means you are going to have to buy the yard equipment to do the job yourself.

Yard equipment that is not cheap these days and could cost you a pretty penny. In fact, it might cost you the same as five or six months of paying your current gardener. A good solid lawnmower can easily run $500 and if you're trying to cut costs in the middle of a recession that may be one expense you cannot afford or you shouldn't afford. Perhaps, you should get a push lawnmower. And I know what you're saying; "do they even make those anymore?"

The answer is yes they do, and during a recession you'd be surprised how popular they are. Now you might think you look silly out there pushing a push lawnmower, but you will lose weight, stay in shape and save quite a bit of money. You can buy a decent push lawnmower for about $65-$75.

The nicer ones run about 100 bucks, but that is still a lot less money than $500 for a gas powered mower. And if you buy a gas powered motor you still have to buy the gas to put in it, and what happens when gasoline goes back up to $5.50 a gallon? These are all things to consider when trying to save money in a recession. Please consider all this.

Choosing the Right Wheel Barrel

If you are going to do a good bit of your own landscaping, or gardening eventually you'll need a solid wheel barrel. But you must understand that not all wheel barrels are created equally, and you shouldn't just jump at that sale priced one that you see in the junk mail ads. There are many lost leader units that are sold by the major home improvement centers, but if you buy a cheap one you'll be sorry later.

Often, the bearings will go out and they will squeak, or the tire will go flat because it is not solid rubber, and still these are only a few of the problems that occur. If the wheel barrel is too flimsy your load will start to shift and it will turn itself over dumping everything inside on the ground. We've all done that a time or two in our lives.

Maybe you've seen wheelbarrels where the bolts inside the bucket, which bolts onto the frame are rusted. This is a mistake from the manufacturer that should have used stainless steel bolts, but to save money they didn't. So whereas, you got a good deal, it has insufficient parts. Quality and price are a trade-off and yet, there are still other issues you must be concerned with when shopping for such a outdoor home improvement tool.

For instance, you should consider the size of the wheelbarrel. Buying a quality unit does not mean you need the biggest size, you need a size that is right for you and that can fit in the walkways in between where you will be taking it, and one you can control. If you get the wrong size wheelbarrel it will take all the fun out of your gardening, because you will be fighting it, as you push it around the yard. Please consider all this.
